Marketing Executive, Victoria, On How Faith Shapes Her Work

Victoria Acom, a marketing executive with Design Without Borders, is getting her mindset revolutionized about work and the idea of God in Genesis 1 creating out of an overflow/satisfaction with Himself, as opposed to any scarcity or lack; recently she has been examining her attitude towards tasks.

“Alot of my productivity, I discovered, is mostly driven by fear, anxiety, competition, and a desire to prove a point to others or myself.”

She wants to change that, with God’s help, of course.

She has had to recognize she’s held to a higher divine standard, though, as a believer who has often found herself struggling to see her work colleagues beyond their tasks.  She ponders.

“I now find that because human interaction and relationships are unavoidable at work, my sanctification in the place I spend the most hours is inevitable; I have to depend on people as they depend on me too.” She adds.

Victoria also sees personal repentance as a character strength that brings more virtue to the workplace.  And “who knows,” she quips,

“Perhaps my conduct may get them asking what drives me, namely, my father in heaven.”

Victoria’s biblical convictions have also challenged her to be more content at work and let her creativity flow from that kind of satisfied heart posture.

She explains, “In realizing that I’m here because God wants me here, and he has permitted me to be here, with these people, doing these things, in this season, it has increased my trust in his ability to not just sustain me where I am, but enable me to flourish right here.”

Encouraged by Psalm 42:8, ‘By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, And at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.’

She now sees God as “Coram Deo,” always present, through the bittersweets of her daily grind, his steadfast love by day, and through prayer and song by night.’

She exclaims, “It’s a comforting antidote to my anxieties to remember that God is omnipresent and he is there with me always!”
